A veteran attorney with more than 40 years of experience, Alan Pearlman’s practice is concentrated in family, criminal, DUI and traffic law. Pearlman is a member of several bar association groups and teaches in his area of practice, as well as in the area of legal technology. A frequent speaker at national legal technology seminars, he also has written extensively on the issues involved in the dissolution of marriage process and frequently contributes to several family law journals. He has served as the webmaster of the American Bar Association’s General Practice Section Internet Board and is a member of the Board of Editors of their GP Solo Magazine’s Technology and Practice Guide, as well as the past chair of the ABA’s Family Law Section Technology Committee.

Known as “The Electronic Lawyer”™, Pearlman has served as chair of the legal technology committees of the Chicago, Northwest Suburban and Illinois State Bar Associations. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of Leader Publication’s Legal Tech Newsletter, a division of the American Lawyer Media’s Publication group, as well as a participating columnist.

In addition to his involvement in the legal technology community, Pearlman serves as an elected member of the Illinois State Bar Association Assembly and has served on several of the ISBA’s committees and section councils. He is also a past chair of the Fellows of the Illinois Bar Foundation.

Prior to founding his own firm, Pearlman served as an Assistant State’s Attorney for Cook County, and as a prosecutor and hearing officer for the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office.

In 2011, Pearlman was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to its Special Committee on E-Business for the State of Illinois to serve as a representative from the users’ standpoint for the development and implementation of e-business applications in the Illinois court system, including but not limited to e-filing. The committee’s role was to develop general guidelines on the use of e-business in the trial courts, the Appellate Court, and before the Supreme Court of Illinois, including statewide standards, protocols, or procedures; analyze applicable rules and statutes and develop recommendations for any changes necessary for the use of e-business within the courts; and review and evaluate e-business applications and impact on the operation and workflow of the courts.
